Research: Is basically is an original investigation undertaken in order to gain and exchange knowledge and understanding about a specific topic. Wikipedia definition here.
Formal research methods
- Required for long reports and complex business problems
- Access electronically: online libraries, the Internet, databases
- Search manually: public or institutional libraries, newspapers, magazine, reference book and etc.
- Investigate primary sources: conduct interviews, organize focus groups and questionnaires
- Experiment scientifically: scientific research representing choices with controlled variables
Informal research methods:
- Used for most of the routine tasks such as e-mails, memos, letters, and informal reports, and oral presentations
- search in existing files
- interview target audience
- conducted informal survey
- talk to the individual making the assignment
